Daniele De Rossi Biography
Daniele De Rossi is the Italian midfielder who is currently the vice captain of Roma and is widely regarded as the natural successor for Roma legend Francesco Totti. Daniele De Rossi was also part of the Italian team that won the World Cup in 2006. He began his career with little-known Italian team Ostia Mare in 1997 before making his move to Roma in 2000. Since then, he has been part of Rome one way or the other. He spent only one season in the youth academy of Roma before making his debut for the senior team in 2001.
Incidentally, it was also the year he decided to play for the Italian under 16 national team. His debut for the club in the Italian Serie A came in the match against Como. He scored his first goal against Torino. So far, Daniele De Rossi has accumulated just under 300 appearances for Roma and he ranks highly alongside the great players who have represented Roma over the years. In his ten years with Roma, Daniele De Rossi has scored 30 goals in total.
Even though he made his debut for Roma in 2001, it was not until the 2003-04 season that de Rossi was established as a first-team regular. Since the 2005-06 season, de Rossi has been making over 45 appearances in a season consistently. He primarily plays as the defensive midfielder and is extremely efficient at breaking up the play. He was an important part of the Roma side that finished runners-up in the fight for the Italian Serie A titles in the 2003–04, 2005–06, 2006–07, 2007–08 seasons. So far, he has not won an Italian Serie A title with Roma, although he has other trophies to credit.
His other achievements with Roma include lifting the Coppa Italia two times, while he has also lifted the Supercoppa Italia once. Despite Roma falling under difficult periods in the latter half of the last decade, de Rossi maintained his dedication to the cause of the club.
Perhaps, his biggest achievements have come with the Italian national team, for whom he made his debut in 2004. So far, he has represented the Italian national team in 68 matches and scored 10 goals. One of his greatest blunders with the Italian national team came in the 2006 FIFA World Cup when he was sent off for a straight red card during one of the group matches and returned only for the final. However, he did extremely well in the final against France to help Italy win the World Cup against all odds. Since then, de Rossi has been part of the Italian national team in the Euro 2008, 2009 Confederations cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
He was voted as the Serie A Young Footballer of the Year in 2006 and also won the Italian Footballer of the Year award in 2009. He has also been awarded the Collar of Merit Sports in 2006 following the victory in the World Cup.
