DE ROSSI RULED OUT

Roma have been given the huge blow with the news that the midfielder Daniele De Rossi will be missing the next two weeks of action after suffering a thigh injury. The midfielder suffered his injury in the recent 1-1 draw with Inter Milan. He recently underwent a scan that confirmed the injury. De Rossi was substituted in the match during the half-time break. Even though he was recently dropped by the manager Zeman, de Rossi remains as one of the important members of the Roma team. Zeman would have certainly done with his presence in the next few weeks especially given that the form has not been good recently.

After challenging for a top four positions earlier in the season, Roma have now dropped to the seventh place in the Italian Serie A table. The 1-1 draw with Inter Milan has done the team no favours, as they have seen their rivals pull ahead of them in the league table. This injury also means that Roma will not be saying the presence of De Rossi on the pitch for the crucial match against Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia. Like during the weekend, this match will also be at home for Roma. Roma will be facing Juventus in the next few weeks.

“Daniele De Rossi underwent diagnostic tests this morning after picking up an injury in Sunday’s Serie A match against Inter. The exams revealed a minor hamstring injury. The player has already begun a rehabilitation program and is expected to recover in approximately two weeks,” said a statement on the official website of the club. The match against Inter Milan in the midweek is going to be extremely important for Zeman, as it would give him the opportunity to get into the final of the Coppa Italia and win a major tournament this season.

DE ROSSI WILL STAY

The Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said that he does not believe that the Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi will be joining the club in the January transfer window. The Premier League champions have been linked with a move for the Italian midfielder for a long time now. He has been one of the favourite players for Roberto Mancini and he has made it known secret of the desire to bring him to the Etihad stadium. However, the two clubs have been unable to strike a deal for the transfer of the player after a number of transfer discussions.

During that period, De Rossi was one of the important players of the Roma team. However, the last few months have changed the future of the midfielder, who has been linked with a number of clubs around the world after falling out with the manager on numerous occasions. Despite this, the 29-year-old has not figure in the transfer plans of Manchester City according to Mancini. City have also been linked with a move for the Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder, who is widely expected to leave the club in January due to a contractual situation. The midfielder has not played for the club in the last two months and has only two years left on his current contract.

“Sneijder is a great player, but we have players like [Samir] Nasri and [David] Silva that have similar characteristics. Despite his great quality, Sneijder is not a player that we need. We tried to take De Rossi in the summer, the deal is not going anywhere and the story is over. I think De Rossi remains at Rome, I do not think he will leave,” said Roberto Mancini. City have fallen six points behind the leaders United and will look into the transfer window for strengthening the squad.

ZEMAN KNOWS

The Roma manager Zdenek Zeman has rejected suggestions that he is not utilising the star midfielder Daniele de Rossi in his best position. The 29-year-old Italian international is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, but this season he has been played in a more offensive position by the manager. In fact, he has been largely used as the second striker at the club this season. Speaking about the changing his role, the Roma manager rejected the suggestion that he is good enough to only play as a central midfielder by saying that de Rossi is good enough to play in a number of positions across the pitch.

The Italian international has been paid in any linked with Manchester city over the last couple of seasons, but any transfer has not materialised meaning that he has spent his career with just Roma. There have been speculations that he will finally depart the club in the summer due to the importance given to Panagiotis Tachtsidis, who is now being used as a playmaker at the club. Daniele de Rossi, meanwhile, has been used as the second striker. This does not seem to have affected the form of Roma after they are currently in the sixth position with 14 points.

“He’s not been a regista (central midfielder) for eight years. I’m amazed at all of you here because you all know that De Rossi has never been a play-maker, that role was filled by David Pizarro. I have to make a decision. De Rossi was used as a regista last season. He was also used as a central defender. Daniele has been playing to the side of the central midfielder for eight years and I don’t see why there should be a problem this term,” said Zdenek Zeman.
